Short Biography

Wei Tong, PhD, is an Associate Professor at the School of Instrument Science and Optoelectronic Engineering, Beihang University, a Visiting Scholar at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), and a reviewer for international journals. His main research focuses on robot visual navigation and control technology. As a core member, he has completed one National Civil Aerospace Pre-research Key Project, one National "863" Program Project, and two National Defense Pre-research Key Projects. He has also led two National Natural Science Foundation of China projects and one Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission key project. In recent years, he has led four National Defense Innovation Special Zone projects and five industry-funded projects, developing the first domestically produced magnetic levitation control moment gyroscope, a wearable visual guide device, a visual recognition and tracking bionic eye, a ladybug-shaped UAV, a visual integrated navigation system, a vision-based vehicle-mounted take-off and landing UAV, and a posture-independent control multi-rotor UAV. He has published over 40 papers, obtained 19 national invention patents and one US invention patent, and received a first-class National Defense Science and Technology Award from the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. He has supervised 22 master's students and assisted in supervising 10 doctoral students. Currently, the main research focuses on the application of visual navigation and control in robots such as unmanned vehicles and robotic arms.
