Yanxiong Niu earned his Bachelor of Science in Physics from the Department of Physics, Jiangsu Normal University in July 1989. In March 1992, he obtained a Master's degree in Military Optics from the Department of Applied Physics, National University of Defense Technology. He later received his Ph.D. in Physical Electronics from the School of Precision Instruments and Optoelectronics Engineering, Tianjin University in March 2006. He has led or participated in more than 10 national and ministerial-level research projects, including the National 973 and 863 Programs, several of which have been awarded second prizes for scientific and technological progress at the provincial or ministerial level. He is also a recipient of the Young Scientist Award from the China Ordnance Society.
