Short Biography
Li Shuang-Feng graduated from St. Petersburg State University of Precision Mechanics and Optics (Russia) in 1996 with a Ph.D. in Optics and Optoelectronic Instruments. She joined the School of Astronautics and the School of Instrumentation and Optoelectronic Engineering at Beihang University in 2001, where she has been serving since. In 2012, she worked as a senior visiting scholar at New York University.
Her research focuses on aerospace and medical-engineering interdisciplinary fields, specializing in micro-nano photonics and devices, advanced optical fiber sensing technology, and bio-optical imaging instruments. She has led dozens of vertical research projects (including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Key R&D Programs, Major Exploration Projects, Preliminary Research, and Basic Scientific Research) and horizontal research projects. She has conducted innovative work in fundamental theories and key technologies related to micro-nano photonic sensing, nonlinear optical imaging, polarization and polarization measurement, contributing significantly to the engineering of fiber optic gyroscopes and the development of micro-nano photonic gyroscopes.
From 2019 to 2023, as a core member of Academician Cheng Heping's team at Peking University working on the space station two-photon microscope project, she contributed to the development of China's independently developed two-photon microscope for the space station. This project achieved the world's first successful in-orbit operation of a two-photon microscope, China's first in-orbit operation of a femtosecond laser, and the first-ever international in-orbit observation of astronauts' cellular structures and metabolic components. "These achievements not only provide new tools and methods for studying astronauts' health monitoring at the cellular and molecular levels in orbit but also offer important technical means for future brain science research using the China Space Station platform." The project was covered by over 600 news media outlets and reported on CCTV's Evening News on March 2, 2023.
She has received one ministerial-level Technology Invention Award and two Technological Progress Awards. She holds 52 authorized Chinese invention patents and utility model patents, along with one U.S. invention patent. She has published over 300 academic papers in domestic and international journals and conferences, including more than 100 SCI-indexed papers.
Independently, she has supervised 25 doctoral students and co-supervised two others, with 17 having already obtained their doctoral degrees. She has also supervised 51 master's students. Among her doctoral students, three have received the "Wang Daheng Optics Award" from the Chinese Optical Society, two have received the "Jin Guofan Young Student Scholarship" from the China Instrument and Control Society, one has received the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Nomination Award from the Chinese Institute of Electronics, one has received the Beihang University Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award, and two have received provincial/ministerial-level science and technology awards.
